Dave Henrie

Employee of the Month - February 2025

I would like to nominate Dave Henrie for Utah County Employee of the month. Dave has been working at Utah County for 32 years and in the GIS Division for 20 years. Over these many years Dave has gained institutional knowledge from nearly every county department. With this institutional knowledge Dave helps team members in our division as they create maps and apps for county departments.

Dave started his career working for the Assessor’s office where he supervised over 100 interns over several years as they created the first parcel map layer in GIS. Dave has worked with the Recorders cadastral mappers during his entire career. Dave has been instrumental in developing the workflow the cadastral mappers use to create parcels.

Annexations, roads, buildings, and municipal boundaries are among the map layers that are displayed on our county basemap. The basemap is used as the background in nearly every map and app that the GIS division produces. Dave is responsible for keeping the basemap up to date. He receives notice from GIS analysts that a change has been made and he goes to work re-caching the basemap to reflect the change.

To keep our servers consistent Dave has taken on the assignment to create all map services. He has developed an efficient structure to organize the hundreds of map services he creates. He quickly and willingly modifies our map services as requests are made. Last year we had 3 major changes to our database and data structures. Dave dug in and made the required changes to hundreds of map services so that our maps and apps are displaying the correct map data.

Dave has served on the UGIC Board of Directors for many years. UGIC is a statewide organization which brings GIS professionals together from all over the state to collaborate, connect, and learn from each other.

Finally, Dave is a great guy who everyone likes. He is always happy and jolly. He is a great communicator. He can easily make connections with end users and get the conversations going to get GIS work done. We often utilize his skills in giving presentations. Dave is always happy to help county employees and the public with their GIS and mapping needs.
