Travis Taylor
Employee of the Month - March 2023

As the Public Works team, we would like to nominate Travis Taylor as the employee of the month. Travis is the type of employee that everyone wants to have on their team. He is approachable, friendly, knowledgeable, willing to help and always there when he is needed. He is generally just an all-around great individual. Travis came to the County about 7 years ago as an Engineer Tech I over traffic signs. He demonstrated his willingness to get in and get dirty by taking ownership of the signs and the shape that they were in as reflection of him as an employee. He very quickly became the resource on the appropriate installation and sign usage for both street signs and trail signs. Travis’s ability to quickly learn and master signs helped him as he decided to increase his knowledge by furthering his education. In order to meet the demands of his job and still be efficient, he attended classes after hours. He took the information he obtained at school and applied it to his job here at the County. Over the course of 3 or 4 years due to his diligent efforts and increased knowledge, Travis had the opportunity to advance in the Engineering Division and eventually became the Engineering Technician Supervisor. He is one of those employees that isn’t OK just doing a mediocre job but seeks for perfection in his duties and strives to assist and motivate others. Travis took his knowledge and his desire to serve others and brought the County from the archaic age to a modern digital age by diligently working to get permits digitized and available online for the public’s convenience. Travis is excellent when dealing with the public. He treats them respectfully and honestly while striving to meet their needs and still keeping the county’s best interest at heart. Often individuals come frustrated with what they call the county processes and by the time they finish with Travis, the situation is diffused, and they leave with an action plan and a smile on their face. Travis also took his skills and his desire to make things more efficient and better by assisting roads in developing a tracking system to provide a better means of determining actual costs for projects. Most recently one of the highlights that Travis completed for Public Works was that he developed a video to illustrate the accomplishments of the team that was presented as part of Public Works Week. If you have seen the video, you can honestly say a picture is worth a thousand words. Not only is Travis good with the office stuff but when time calls for getting the job done he is not afraid to throw the boots on, climb in a stream, remove a log jam, fill and place sand bags, and get dirty. The only hesitation we have in nominating Travis Taylor as employee of the month is that we don’t want other departments to try and poach him from us.
